Today's stage is characterized by the transition from the high alpine climate to the Mediterranean-flavored atmosphere of the Merano valley basin. The fertile landscape with fruit and palm trees and plenty of sunshine will accompany us from now on. The history of Tyrol is "visibly" shaped by Tyrol Castle, the former seat of the Counts of Tyrol. The last crossing, the Gampenjoch, still lies ahead of us. The Gampen Pass was one of the most important crossings in the Alps and was used by pilgrims, travelers, salt traders, and crusaders.
Author’s recommendation
In Marling by the music pavilion is the Tyrolean Platzl. Four impressive rock elements testify to the history of old Tyrol, one of the largest Gesamttirol initiatives in the Tyrolean commemorative year 1809-2009.

Roadbook
We leave Bockerhütte valley outward through the Spronser valley, reach the Tyrolean Cross at 806 m (refreshment and accommodation available). There we enjoy the view into the Adige valley and the Burggrafenamt. We walk downhill, immediately left after the Tyrolean Cross on path no. 9 past Auer Castle, further through the orchards and vineyards to the church of St. Rupert, a late Gothic building from 1470. Continuing on the Ruprecht path to the main road and then to the Segenbühelweg. Just before the Forcher guesthouse we turn right onto the Tyrolean Steig, which leads us directly to the parish church of St. Nicholas and into the center of Merano. We stroll through the old town and the spa park, walk along the right side of the river on the Passer promenade, cross the railway and continue to a green metal bridge. Over the bridge spanning the Passer River, then right on the foot and cycle path until after some bends we reach the main road. Over a bridge we cross the motorway and the Adige and thus reach the Marlingerhof inn. We follow the asphalt road and the signposting "Marlinger Waalweg" path no. 33 uphill to the Waalheim. From there continuing on the almost level „Waalweg" to Lana. A "Waal" is a century-old irrigation canal for watering the orchards and vineyards. In Lana briefly on the road towards the Gampen Pass, after the bridge (Falschauer river) right into the pedestrian zone, about 200 m further on the main road, then right on the paved Völlaner Weg steeply uphill, following the signpost "Völlan 10B" to a wayside shrine with the Mother of God and the infant Jesus. There we turn left and continue on the ancient mule track no. 10, on which the grooves worn into the stones by old wagon tracks tell us stories, further until we reach Völlan.
