Park by the pavement in Church Road in the Crook of Devon.

Leaving the Crook of Devon, the walk follows the spectacular tumbling water of Rumbling Bridge Gorge. The upper gorge is fairly tame, but once you cross the bridge to the other side of the river (signposted to the Yetts of Muckhart), the views meet expectations.

Follow the signs to the Bridge Viewpoint.  This is at the end of the gorge and is an interesting double bridge ① . The lower arch was built in 1713 (there had been a previous pedestrian only bridge), and then the upper arch was built on top in 1816 to give vehicles an easier gradient by removing the steep slope down to the old bridge.

Leave the gorge path path by the large step at the gate and then cross the road and go into the Blairhill estate. Follow the route to Muckhart Mill ②, a picturesque former mill and limekiln nestled at the bottom of a valley. It is a private house and not open to the public.

Past the mill, the route then follows a ROW to the village of Pool of Muckhart. Walk along the pavement on main street and then the wide roadside verge until you enter Yetts of Muckhart. Turn right down the public path (signposted) and follow the route till you meet the River Devon again. Turn right through the gate. The path here can be overgrown. Follow the river until you meet a bridge. Do not cross, but turn right towards Crook of Devon.

Refreshments: coffee or lunch at the Muckhart Inn or Monas, both in Pool of Muckhart.

    November 2013.
