On this hike, we follow the Río Sor just before it flows into the Ría del Barqueiro. At this estuary lies the northernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula, Punta de la Estaca de Bares. Here in the north, Galicia reveals a strangely secluded side, which gives a much stronger impression of being at the "End of the World" than Finisterre, which claims this characteristic for itself. Tourism plays hardly any role here outside the season, which is why many things can usually be enjoyed in peace, just like this tour along the beautiful shore of the small but lively Sor stream.
We follow the hiking sign at the edge of the hamlet O Morgallón down the asphalt road and cross the Río Sor after about 15 minutes. Shortly thereafter, just before the small hamlet Monte de Insua da Baixo, a narrow, possibly somewhat overgrown path branches off to the left towards the river.After a few minutes, it goes up to the right by a rock wall and then more or less level alongside the river. The path is somewhat uncomfortable at times, occasionally fallen trees must be overcome. About 15 min after the rock wall, a forest road joins from the right, we continue on the faint path to the right. Shortly after, this leads into a forest road, which we follow straight for around 300 m (no markings recently due to forestry work); then we take the riverbank path to the left.
