The Erzgebirge-Vogtland ridgeway offers varied hiking experiences over approximately 289 kilometers through largely untouched nature. About three quarters of the route runs through the Erzgebirge-Vogtland Nature Park and leads through dense forests, over scenic ridges and to geological special features such as the basalt fan at the Hirtstein. With a bit of luck, rare animal species such as badgers, black grouse or kingfishers can be observed. The certified quality trail is suitable both as a long-distance hike and for about 17 varied day stages. Along the route, nature and culture combine: Museums, demonstration workshops of Ore Mountains folk art, historical evidence of mining, as well as numerous recreational opportunities line the way. Observation towers, castles, palaces and two traditional narrow-gauge railways complete the experience. This creates a diverse hiking trail that impressively combines enjoyment of nature, regional history and cultural diversity.
