Meadow summit in the front row

The Reuterwanne marks the northwesternmost point in the catchment area of this guide. Since it is a mountain on the edge of the Alps in the very front row, the view is accordingly striking. To the north, the impressive Grüntensee lake stands out against the vast Alpine foreland, while to the south, you look deep into the stage-like tiered mountain range. On a circular tour, there are also various places to stop for food, with the Stubentalalpe lying just on Tyrolean soil, namely in the Jungholz exclave.

From the parking lot near Reichenbach, 911 m, take the paved road initially for quite a while up to Haslachalpe. Just before the fork, keep right and reach Buronhütte via a farm road, approx. 1175 m. The route to Hinterreute is left uphill, soon passing the also operated Alpe Blösse, approx. 1230 m. Here a path begins. It leads a short way into the wooded northwest slope, then steepens. You reach a ledge with an old ski lift station, dip briefly into the woods again, and finally ascend the summit of Reuterwanne, 1542 m, from the north. The descent begins on the southwest side at the open meadow ridge. With a sharp left turn to Obere Reuterwanne Alpe, 1387 m, and at the junction, continuing towards Stubentalalpe, 1284 m, which is reached with a slight descent. There we turn northwards, initially following a wide trail, then a path across a small cut and subsequently a forest road. From Haslachalpe, the route is identical to the outward journey.

Profile picture of Mark Zahel Author Mark Zahel
