Through a stretch of wilderness on a headland in the Rügischer Bodden

Like an outstretched finger, the narrow headland of the Reddevitzer Höft juts a good five kilometers into the Rügischer Bodden. On the rugged pebble beach at the foot of the cliffs along the unspoiled northern shore, there are usually only a few hikers. The return route, however, which follows a narrow concrete path, must be shared with quite a few cyclists during the peak season.

On the southwestern outskirts of Alt Reddevitz, we follow a small concrete road from the bus turnaround, which immediately passes by the wine-red-painted Karola country house. After a few minutes, we pass the entrance to an organic farm (with a farm shop) on the Teutenberg; 300 m further on, we leave the concrete path on the right and take the trail to Strandburg, a former hotel where whiskey is now distilled.To the left, in front of the distillery’s castle-like building, we descend along a path through a narrow strip of forest to the northern shore of the headland, where a beach meadow of dune grass has taken root. Right at the water’s edge, we first find a well-trodden trail heading toward the Kasper Ort headland, which lies far to the west. But after just a few minutes, once the beach meadow is behind us, the path becomes more or less trail-less as we continue along the rather rugged rocky beach. About half an hour past the beach meadow, we walk past a solitary thatched-roof house;

Profile picture of Rolf Goetz Author Rolf Goetz
