The Red Earth Walk develops around Borgiallo, in Canavese, crossing a territory where the color of the soil tells an important part of the local history. The red soils, rich in clays, have indeed favored over time the spread of terracotta and ceramic craftsmanship, an activity that has characterized many centers in the area.
The route alternates sections on paths and dirt roads that penetrate the woods and the hilly areas above the town. The environment is typical of the foothill Canavese: slopes covered with vegetation, small hollows and clearings that open among the trees, with views over the surrounding landscape and the scattered villages of the territory.
The walk proceeds with regular ups and downs, following local routes that allow exploring a varied and peaceful landscape. The wooded sections alternate with more open areas, where the ground takes on the reddish tones that give the itinerary its name and represent one of the distinctive elements of this area.
This is an itinerary suitable for a half-day hiking walk, ideal for discovering a lesser-known corner of Canavese and for closely observing the geological and cultural features that have marked the identity of the territory.
