This mixed forest in the Middle Schussen valley is located at the city gates and is popular as a local recreation area. Designated hiking trails, a forest fitness trail, a forest playground with barbecue area, and a wildlife enclosure with fallow deer, mouflon, and wild boar make this forest a popular excursion destination, especially for families.
Author’s recommendation
The spacious playground with barbecue area or the Hirscheck restaurant at the hiking car park with panoramic views invite you to take a break.

From the starting point, go straight into the forest to the barrier. Behind it, the hiking trail leads on the right to the fallow deer enclosure. You walk along the fence to the hut where you can buy animal feed. Then continue left on the gravel path to the wild boar enclosure. At the level of the feeding trough, a narrow forest path leads slightly uphill to the right. This takes you onto part of the fitness trail: here you pass the "stair run" and then left past the "bench press" station. At the next but one junction, take the left downhill path that leads over the wider gravel hiking trail to the Lanzenreuter pond. At the crossroads, follow the uphill hiking signs with the red dot toward Ravensburg. This is also a section of the Way of St. James and can be recognized by the signage with the scallop shell. This path leads straight on past a rondel over three intersections until shortly before the clearing you turn left at a bench onto the forest trail and walk along the forest edge until it ends on a gravel path. Turn left about 200 m to the spacious playground with barbecue area and wooden fountain. The hiking car park with the Höhenrestaurant Hirscheck is signposted to the right from there.
