The rocky bastion Rautispitz – Wiggis dominates the narrowest point of the Linth valley with its characteristically banded rock faces. The massif rises almost vertically above the valley floor. But this rugged front is only a facade. Towards the 'back', to the Obersee valley, at least the Rautispitz shows gentle rounded shapes.
The starting point is the beautifully situated Obersee, accessible from Näfels by hiking taxi, by car, or a 2-hour walk. From the restaurant, the path follows the lakeshore on flat ground. Later you enter the forest and climb to the Gräpplistafel. Beyond it, the path leads along a solid rock ledge around the mountain ridge of the Tänn into the high valley of Rautialp. To the left, the Rautispitz rises attractively, while the Wiggis stands rocky and steep to the right. The path leads over meadows and avalanche debris to the gentle saddle between both peaks. After about a dozen switchbacks, the Rautispitz, 2283 m, is quickly conquered on the left. On clear days, breathtaking views are offered, not least by the steep view down into the Linth valley. Those who – back at the connecting saddle – still feel like going to the Wiggis should be free from vertigo. In an exposed location, the narrow, carved trail winds around the Höchnase through smooth rock plates to the cross-adorned forepeak
