Ramsau Painter's Trail

At the beginning of the 19th century, a lively artist colony emerged at Hintersee. Renowned artists, led by Carl Rottmann, enthusiastically discovered the natural beauty. The reputation quickly spread, and artists came from all directions: Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Wilhelm Busch, Hubert von Herkomer, Carl Spitzweg, Ludwig Richter, or Adalbert Stifter, to name just the most famous. The path leads us to the places where many famous works were created. It allows a direct comparison with today's reality and impressively shows the individual artistic perspective. Along the Painter's circular trail, you can view the masterpieces on site. A brochure (available at the Ramsau Tourist Information) provides information about the locations of the individual easels, which are labeled with the works of the landscape painters.
