This hike along the old Treno Oltradige (Überetscher Bahn) railway line from Appiano (Eppan) to Caldaro (Kaltern) runs past the extraordinary Buche di Ghiaccio (Eislöchern) ice holes.
This hike along the old railway line starts in the centre of San Michele/Eppiano (St. Michael/Eppan). Stay with Trail No. 22, the walking and biking route (old railway line) past Christl in Loch and to Caldaro (Kaltern). From there, follow Trail No. 15 to Pianizza di Sopra (Oberplanitzing) and continue on to the Buche di Ghiaccio (Eislöchern) ice holes. Continue a bit further to Furglauer Stream. Turn right, past Englar Castle, and return on Trail No. 540 to the centre of Appiano.
