Selected alternatives for you

Walking twice through the Höflein-Moor and enjoying special viewpoints on the Sattnitz ridge with southern views reduces the feeling of hiking distance and elevation gain!

Even if about 17 km seems long, the comfortable paths, the planned breaks and alternatives (shortcuts) put the hiking plan in a more pleasant light! Seven longer forest sections also provide a pleasant basis for the planned T'ai Chi exercises on the scenic meadows – these health-promoting offers are completely voluntary!

The overall six T'ai Chi hiking proposals near Klagenfurt have the character of nostalgic hiking, i.e. “hiking before the year 1999”!

    More INFO:

T'ai Chi ideas and experience can be tried out around Klagenfurt by visiting powerful places to improve the gait pattern. This creates a basis for fluid movement sequences, for example through mobilizing pelvic exercises, open palms, upright and centered posture, smaller steps,

forward gaze, as well as a harmonious interplay of arms and legs.

    Safety information

On these 18 km, multiple changes between hiking paths and paved public roads are necessary – on these we strictly keep to the LEFT SIDE WALKING (walking side-by-side is possible).

After the 2nd exercise, near the village Schwarz, there is a ca. 200 m long, pathless, steep forest section to overcome. Also, on the southern hill on the return, attention must be paid to a path when going downhill.

    Tips and suggestions

Near Gh. Mickl is the starting area for paragliders – you can watch preparations and starting, and also have interesting conversations with the athletes.

Departure: 08:00, Benedictine Square            Meeting Point: 08:30, Tutzach (Marterl)

Easy hike, 450 m elevation gain, 17 km, duration: 6 ½ hours - of which 5 hours walking time

    Route description: Tutzach-Haselberg-Schwarzberg-southern mountains (1st mountain: Steigbügel)-Kossiach-Oberkreuth (Gh. Mickl and Raunjak)-Radsberg (church)-Höflein-Moor-Tutzach.

    DETAILED DIRECTIONS:

    1. We walk from the Bildstock heading south and after about 100 m in an orchard perform the 1st exercise, 760 m. We stay on this path, pass the water castle to the west, and meet a cross path, which we follow right, west.

    2. We walk around the Haselberg, first about 600 m left, immediately right afterwards and after about 300 m left again, until we see the village Schwarz at the forest edge – we go right to the forest edge to do the 2nd exercise/1st break, 2.3 km, 788 m on the meadow.

    3. Then we go about 200 m southwest, then cross-country (possibly using GPS) down to the main forestry path (HWW) – which leads us left, east to the asphalt road.

ALTERNATIVE 1: Follow the asphalt road left over Schwarz to Radsberger Straße, then at Schulbauer turn left towards Tutzach.

    4. We continue walking around (right) the Schwarzberg and reach the village Kossiach – at the left curve after about 900 m (2nd break, 4.1 km, 691 m) we go straight into the forest towards Janischberg to a forest path leading northeast – this takes us to the Pader farm and then further to the asphalt road.

ALTERNATIVE 2: Take the asphalt road through Kossiach and then continue with Alternative 1.

    5. Now we go right, southeast, later east - after the last house turn right and after about 250 m half-right towards the meadow. We pass the southeast corner of the meadow on a path to the first of the southern mountains, Steigbügel, and take the 3rd break, 6.2 km, 692 m.

    6. We return about 1.3 km, just before the Bildstock, left in the orchard and do the 3rd exercise/4th break, 7.5 km, 645 m. Then after 250 m half-right, then after approx. 400 m, about 40 m before the Bildstock, north – then after about 500 m straight ahead (first a green dot, then a blue stick).

ALTERNATIVE 3: After the 3rd exercise: Take the asphalt road left over Schwarz to Radsberger Straße, then at Schulbauer turn left towards Tutzach.

    7. We come to the asphalt road at the fire station, walk about 150 m right, and then take the path to the right that goes south of the Höflein-Moor.

ALTERNATIVE 4: Continue on asphalt road to Radsberger Straße, then at Schulbauer go to Tutzach.

    8. After the meadow, go half-left, east and after 80 m north – then after about 450 m turn right on the path, east, to just before the Gh. Mickl to do the 4th exercise/5th break, 10.3 km, 791 m.

    9. On the way to the village Radsberg after about 200 m there is the

ALTERNATIVE 5: Follow the asphalt road left (Kreuth Straße) and further to Radsberger Straße, then at Schulbauer go to Tutzach.

    10. We follow Kreuth Straße to the right, then after about 100 m turn left, northeast passing the Zulechner farm. [Please ask here if it is permitted exceptionally to continue straight ahead – if not: take a right curve along the forest edge.] We walk past 2 Bildstocks to Radsberger Straße, then about 300 m left, north, to the Bildstock at the crossroads and turn right, east to the church (6th break, 12.2 km, 748 m)

    11. We return to the Bildstock, cross the road and walk on a farm track west to Höflein-Moor - caution! At the crossroads after about 1.8 km go half-left and later carefully cross the asphalt road.

    12. After reading the information board about the moor, we cross the road, walk along the forest edge northwest and just before the next forest border turn left on a hill to do the 5th exercise/7th break, 15.2 km, 783 m – then initially staying left, along the farm track to the cross path and turn right to the parking and Bildstock in Tutzach (16.7 km).
