The tour largely follows the scenic southern ridge of the mountain in the upper part, the so-called Schneid between the Durnholzer Valley and the Penser Valley. North of the summit lies the Radel or Gentersee (2298 m), a nearly circular lake only a few meters deep, one of the highest in the Sarntal Alps (descent there over rubble and scree is dangerous!).
From the parking lot at Mesnerhof (1260 m), ascend on path no. 17, through the fence gap and onto the meadow path into the tall forest. Forest roads are repeatedly crossed. At the alpine hut »Auf der Katz« (1845 m), we leave the forest zone behind. We now encounter the alpine goods road but soon leave it again to the right onto a shortcut hiking trail. After a final short stretch along the goods road, the path leads right up to the small masonry Genterer Alm (2025 m), which originated from a shepherd's hut (marked on the map) with a well. Further northeast you see a clearly visible cairn on the grassy southern ridge (»Schneid«). The continuation of the ascent runs along it up to the cross on the rocky Leiterspitz (2375 m), called Gentersberg by locals. Here you have an extensive panoramic view, west to the Hirzer, east on the Sarner eastern ridge.
