A moderately difficult and forest-rich route of about 5 km in length with wonderful trail guidance past the Lambsbach stream and Celtic relics. Besides the fish pond and the ruins of Merburg in Homburg-Kirrberg, this loop attracts with shady beech and pine forests. Not only families but also experienced hikers have an eventful day ahead here.
The Rabenhorst loop lies in the Kirrberger forest and runs partly parallel with the premium hiking trail "Schlossbergtour". The fisherman's hut in Kirrberg with a lovely terrace is a perfect place to stop for refreshments. The hike with the raven as a symbol starts at the Karlslust parking lot on L 120 between Homburg and Käshofen and, after crossing the street, follows the idyllic course along the Lambsbach stream to the "Vogelsbrünnche." Here, a rest at the bench by the spring is possible. Next, the route continues along a moor to the fish pond and the ruins of Merburg from the 11th century. This valley castle lies just twelve meters above the water level of the Lambsbach on a sandstone block called the Malafels. It is one of the smallest castles in Saarland and was restored in its historic state between 1975 and 1980. The remains of the former tower and the castle wall, which were restored, are clearly visible.
Through a beautiful moss-covered pine forest, the route leads to the former wellness hotel Rabenhorst with a Celtic grave just around the corner. The last third of the hike delights with natural paths and ends by leading along L 462 via a path back to Karlslust.

Roadbook
The starting point of this route is the parking lot Karlslust in the dip of the country road L 462 between Homburg and Käshofen. From there, the hiking trail crosses the L 462 and continues straight along the path beside the Lambsbach stream. Here it sometimes goes naturally over roots and stones until the small spring is reached. The loop continues straight through the beautifully idyllic Lambsbach valley past the brook with views of meadows and forests. After a few hundred meters, the Kirrberg fish pond with its fisherman's hut and the ruins of Merburg are reached. A rest with a view of the pond is definitely worthwhile here. From the fisherman's hut, the route continues straight on the wide gravel path to the second fork. Here, the trail turns left and briefly follows the "Schlossbergtour." As soon as this trail turns right at a small staircase in the forest, this loop continues straight until it reaches the former Landhotel Rabenhorst. There, take the next turn right to the burial mound. At the mound, the route leads right to the main gravel hiking trail coming from the fisherman's hut. This path is crossed and leads slightly uphill into a lovely forest area. This stretch continues straight for several hundred meters until it joins the next wide gravel hiking trail. Here the loop turns right until, after some time, it reaches a wide intersection where several paths meet. At the intersection, turn right towards L 462 and then follow a narrow path by the country road back to the initial crossing point of the L 462. Thus, the starting point is reached again.
