This hike through Germany's smallest national park along the chalk coast between Königsstuhl and Sassnitz is something special.
This hike through Germany's smallest national park along the chalk coast between Königsstuhl and Sassnitz is something special. Romantic painters such as Caspar David Friedrich and Carl Gustav Carus found inspiration here. This landscape served as a model for atmospheric paintings. Not only the path along the coast is interesting. In the Jasmund National Park there is the largest contiguous stand of beech trees in Germany. Legends and myths revolve around the Hertha Lake, the Slavic refuge castle on its northern shore, and the sacrificial stones. In the Pirate's Bay near Sassnitz, the pirate Klaus Störtebeker is said to have deposited treasures. Finally, we stroll through the picturesque alleys of the historic old town and along the beach promenade through the town harbor of Sassnitz with the longest outer breakwater of a European harbor town.
