Roadbook
The circular hiking trail begins at the parking lot of the restaurant and wine tavern "Alte Henne" and you walk on the driveway towards Scherneck, past the riding arena and riding stable with the horse barns as well as the riding hall. At the end of the riding hall, a narrow path turns left to the Querkelsteine. The old quarry remains on the right and the path winds along the slope into the outer park of Hohenstein to the mysterious rock formations. Occasionally you may also encounter riders on this path.
Circular trail signs indicate the route. Location signs are placed by the respective rocks and contain their names. Via a well-maintained forest road, we reach the lightly trafficked and paved local connecting road from Stöppach to Hohenstein. It goes slightly uphill and soon, on the left side at the height of a stone bench, a signpost shows the way to the Teufelsstein. A short detour leads to this rock block. Around 1815, it was equipped with a hut accessible by two stone staircases and a wooden staircase in between. Now it is well suited as a climbing rock.
Back on the road, the hike continues toward the main entrance of Hohenstein Castle. A hotel with a restaurant in the castle offers a special ambiance. Unfortunately, the castle tower cannot be climbed for the time being. However, you can visit the old chapel from the 16th century. The key for this is available at the castle restaurant. A visit to the Rococo park is definitely recommended. Back on the driveway, it is only a short distance to the starting point of the circular hike.
