Although the Pyramidenspitze is only the second highest peak after the adjacent Vordere Kesselschneid, it is the best-known summit in the Zahmer Kaiser. The route through the impressive rock and scree basin of the Winkelkar becomes increasingly demanding with altitude. Only for experienced hikers!
From the parking lot we hike on a small road to the Jager-Ried-Hütte, then on a tractor way to the Großpoitneralm and behind it on a path over pasture to a ledge with a trail junction. Straight ahead (trail no. 91) it continues to the nearby Winkelalm and then down into a damp hollow. We then ascend briefly in a grassy and lightly wooded hollow of the Winkelkar, then to the right over a pronounced moraine ridge, first covered with larches, later open, to an inconspicuous knoll. Behind this a strenuous scree slope leads to the start of the well-marked via ferrata, which overcomes a 200 m high, steep rock, crag, and larch flank. Rope-secured rock sections, unstable scree terrain and larch areas alternate several times. About halfway up we cross left to a rockfall-prone gully and leave it again to the left after about 70 vertical meters towards the Jovenscharte.
