Scenic circular route starting from Portole. Relatively short route but the outward leg is almost entirely uphill, at times challenging, the return is all steep descent. Therefore, I consider the route quite demanding for the legs.

The route is more panoramic if done counterclockwise because the panoramic ridge is approached uphill. The descent on the cement, however, is very hard on the legs; if you have knee problems, it is better to do the route clockwise.
