The Vallunga, carved into the massif of the Puez Group as if by a Cyclopean fist, is one of Val Gardena's showpieces. Our hike leads across the Puez plateau, which is rich in dolines, and in a wide arc around the canyon, finally through the magnificent valley itself out to the idyllically situated Sylvester Chapel and on to Selva Gardena. If you are not impressed by all the scenic attractions, the wonders of nature can hardly fail to delight!
Take the Dantercepies gondola lift from the valley station in Selva Gardena up to the mountain station. From there, follow a road briefly to the east, then continue straight ahead on trail no. 12A to the Jimmy hut, 2222 m. On trail no. 2, ascend steeply to the northeast in rugged terrain, later passing between boulders and over scree to the Cirjoch, 2469 m. First descend towards the bumpy Chedul valley, then climb steeply to the right (east) to the Crespeinajoch, 2528 m. On the other side, descend on trail no. 2 to a meadow (Lake Crespeina lies below to the left), then up and down the Crespeina plateau to the northeast to the Ciampaijoch, 2366 m. Take path no. 2 up a rocky gully to the northern Puez plateau and follow this initially to the north, then gently uphill in a north-westerly direction to the Puez Hut, 2475 m. Follow trail no. 2 around the Puezkofel to the fork before reaching the Puezalm. Turn left and follow path no. 16 across meadows to the southwest, then descend
