Long circular hike from Stara Fužina

Spectacular views of Slovenia's largest Alpine lake
Bohinjsko jezero (Lake Bohinj), surrounded by steep mountain flanks and not unlike a fjord, is the largest lake in the Slovenian Alps. Two environmentally friendly electric boats, formerly based at Lake Königssee, shuttle between the eastern and western shores several times a day and are very popular. Following an agreement between the two national park communities of Ramsau (Berchtesgaden National Park) and Bohinj (Triglav National Park) in 2000, the two ships were moved from Lake Königssee to Bohinjsko jezero in a spectacular move. They look like little toy ships from our high vantage point as we look down from the summit of Pršivec to the dark lake that stretches out at our feet more than 1200 meters below. The view across the mountains of the national park to Triglav is no less beautiful.

From the parking lot, follow the toll road for about 20 minutes, then turn left at a cross, 660 m, onto the path to Planina Vogar. The stony, former farm track winds its way steeply up the wooded mountain flank to a viewpoint on the edge of the terrain, from where we have a spectacular view of the deep blue lake. Now we continue at a more leisurely pace and a quarter of an hour later we have reached the Kosijev dom, 1054 m, on the Vogaralm. We continue along the access road to the hut for 5 minutes until it turns right; here we go straight ahead (signpost "Pl. Vodični vrh", 1082 m) on a slightly ascending hiking trail into the forest. As if on a promenade path, we hike westwards through beautiful mixed mountain forest without a steep incline; the path is only briefly interrupted by a weedy meadow and a subsequent steep gravel passage. After three quarters of an hour, we reach a crossing forest path, which we turn left onto and follow until we reach the remains of an old windbreak.
