Over the heights of Neuwied, hikers follow the footsteps of the Princes of Wied to Meinhof towards the Wied valley. Picturesquely, the path later leads along the Wied to the Laubach mill and to the district of Altwied with its mighty castle ruins, before the ascent to Monrepos is climbed again.
The starting point of the route is the car park at Monrepos Castle, which, in addition to an archaeological research center, also houses a highly exciting museum for human behavioral evolution. Just a few meters from the car park, a narrow path leads down into the shady forest of the Aubach valley. After another forest section, the Princes' path now runs together with the Rheinsteig through wide meadows. Here, the view opens down to the Rhine and far into the Vulkaneifel. After crossing the K 110 and along the forest edge, past two wooden journeymen and an insect hotel, a magnificent view of the Neuwied basin follows. Shortly thereafter, the gentle descent into the Wied valley begins. Forest and meadows alternate until you finally cross the Wied via an old stone bridge and have the neat town of Altwied in front of you. The walls of Altwied Castle impressively tower into the sky. Now the Princes' path leads uphill through the forest. Along the way, the view back into the Wied valley is always worthwhile. Soon it goes steeply downhill, and the inviting Laubach mill comes into view. After a break, the path crosses the Wied again, this time over a covered wooden bridge. Now you walk a short way along the Wied until the long ascent alternates through forest and meadows towards Monrepos. At the height, it goes past a chestnut avenue along the forest edge until a rest area with a shelter under ancient beeches offers a well-deserved break. Shortly thereafter, at the residence of the former Monrepos Castle, old giant trees like beech and sequoia greet you. Now it is not far and you suddenly stand in front of the Monrepos museum. And a little further lies the Hanhof. It is worth stopping here before returning to the car park, where this varied circular route ends.

Safety information
General safety instructions:
- Wear weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
- Plan your stages with adequate breaks and use your energy sparingly.
- Take enough fluids with you. Refreshment opportunities are not available everywhere.
- Please wear appropriate hiking boots that provide you with sufficient grip even on slippery, steep, rocky, and uneven paths.
- If you believe certain sections of the path are not walkable for you, you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths may have muddy and slippery sections.
- Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves may hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You should expect such path impairments when hiking.
- Particularly steep and clearly dangerous spots are, of course, secured with handrails or ropes. Please treat these safety measures as such. Handrails are intended as fall protection and not as climbing frames or viewing towers. Please treat these safety measures as such.
