Priečne sedlo, the easiest crossing from the Malá to the Veľká Studená Dolina valley, lies in the Prostredný hrebeň side ridge running south-east from the main ridge of the High Tatras, between the Široká veža and Priečna veža peaks. This saddle was already used by hunters in earlier times. Today's marked trail, which runs to the right of a steep rocky gully, was initially secured with iron chains in 1934 and later with clamps. For experienced hikers, the route via Priečne sedlo is a good test before embarking on more challenging undertakings, such as the Gerlach or Vysoká summit ascent.
From Hrebienok, follow the red-marked Tatra Main Trail to the fork Nad Rainerovou chatou just above Starolesnianska poľana. Continue straight ahead and briefly downhill to the Veľký Studený potok stream. At the Pod Húpačkami fork, follow the green markings from the right. On the bridge over the water, in a bend up to Obrovský vodopád by another bridge over the Malý Studený potok. Cross the lower valley level, turn left uphill and follow the green markings (the red one turns right) uphill to the cozy Zamkovského chata, 1475 m. This classic wooden building was built in 1942/43 at the instigation of the then tenant of the Téryho chata, the mountaineer Štefan Zamkovský. To this day, it is a very popular refreshment stop in a favorable location just above the Tatra highways and on the popular hiking trail to the Malá Studená dolina.
