Starting from Marie
Excerpt from the randoxygène "moyen pays" guide published free of charge by the department
Perched on a spur overlooking the Tinée, Marie lies on the boundary between Mediterranean and Alpine influences, as shown by its mixed stone slab and tile roofs.
Well restored and featuring a renowned inn, the village is worth a visit with its narrow stairway alleys, vaulted passages, and various buildings recalling an ancestral way of life: washhouse, oil mill, bread oven, still, barns...
Tradition holds that the inhabitants of Clans, whose properties were on the current territory of Marie, built a shrine dedicated to the Holy Virgin.
Some dwellings began to appear around the Marie shrine, hence the symbolic name of this charming village.
This small discovery route around the Pointe de Clamia alternates between pine, oak or chestnut woods and former cultivated areas colonized by shrubby vegetation.
