The Long Way through the Ebersberg Forest

On this interesting tour from Poing to Ebersberg, we encounter three different landscapes, as we first hike through the eastern Munich foothills to Anzing, then through the vast Ebersberg Forest, and finally over the moraine hill ridge to Ebersberg and thus into the Alpine foothills. The centerpiece of the hike is the shady passage through the Ebersberg Forest, which, with its long trail sections, the opportunity to observe wild boars and deer, as well as the stop at the St. Hubertus Forest House, is quite entertaining and reaches its highlight with the Alpine view from the observation tower.

We start hiking at Poing station by crossing to the south side of the tracks over the parking lot to Bahnhofstraße, then turn left onto it to the intersection and continue straight ahead (eastward) through the main street. At St. Michael’s church, we turn right into Anzinger Straße and follow it for 350 m, then turn right into Prielmayerstraße and immediately left into Pfarrhofweg. Straight ahead we leave Poing on a field path (bee educational trail) and hike gently uphill past a wooded area. The path then descends to the A 94 motorway, which we cross on a slightly right-shifted bridge. We follow the paved road past the Berghäusl property on the right, through a left curve to Ranharting, then past it and through a right curve to Froschkern, where we can take a look into the small chapel at the village entrance. Immediately after passing through Froschkern, we approach the crosswise Munich road between Neufarn and Anzing; just before reaching the road, we keep right, go under it, and
