The tour begins right by the sea in Laigueglia and takes us up the range of hills that borders the Val Merula to the west. After just a short while, we leave the houses behind and climb up through old terraces lined with olive trees, supported by dry stone walls. Further up, the vegetation thins out, and we walk through low-growing scrubland with rosemary, broom, and mastic trees. The ridge of Poggio Balaie is part of a densely interconnected network of trails above Andora, which is also touched by the Sentiero Liguria and continues toward Poggio Brea and Colla Micheri. From the ridge, the view stretches across Andora Bay and the offshore coastline, and on a clear day, the arc of the Ligurian Alps is visible inland.
