Around Kühtai, we find a whole range of trail mountains in the high two-thousand-meter level. The Pockkogel is comparatively rarely honored, which is why it should be introduced more closely at this point. The tour offers typical Central Alpine terrain and a special element with the huge Finstertal reservoir. At the top, we are rewarded with views of the Sellrainer and the front Ötztal mountains.
In Kühtai, we first take the Finstertaler service road and then veer left to follow a shortcut trail on the other side of the brook. At the base of the dam wall, you cross the road again and shortly reach the area beside the dam crest of the Finstertal reservoir, 2325 m. Since the shore path is closed for a short section, you will be detoured above before the route branches off to the Pockkogel on the left. Ascending over block and grassy slopes, then over a steeper section to the left edge of the Vorderer Karle and over another terrain step to the Steintalsattel, which allows a passage into the Kraspestal and to Haggen. However, we aim for the summit slope and reach the Pockkogel, 2807 m, on trail tracks through the relatively steep southwest flank. The descent is via the same path.

Mark Zahel
