Birches and old oaks are reflected in the water of the ponds created by monks 900 years ago, which today are part of a nature reserve covering over 1000 ha. Our tour leads sometimes through forest, sometimes along the shore and over dams right through the lakes, where swans, ducks, and geese swim. Little grebes and great crested grebes as well as numerous songbirds can also be spotted in the reed belt.
From the parking lot at Speicher Plothen we return to the road and take the meadow path to the right, which runs parallel to the road towards Knau. After about 100 m we turn left before the pond, cross the road, and take the inconspicuous meadow path that leads into the forest. In the forest we turn right after about 200 m. We ignore all side paths and finally the path leads into a wide gravel road on which we continue straight ahead. At the fork we keep right, shortly pass the ringing station of the NABU Nature Conservation Union and follow the path until the fork before a lake. Here we keep right and soon cross an asphalt road to turn right just behind it. On the side of the hedge away from the roadway, we walk parallel to the road. At the end of the pond on the left, the meadow path turns into a gravel path and leads us left past the shelter at the Födischteich. We initially orient ourselves by the marking of yellow diagonal bars, ignore side paths, pass along the pond »Kleine
