Two summit crosses adorn this spectacular rock massif towering over Gstatterboden – reportedly due to a misunderstanding. Via Kölblplan and Seekar, this magnificent summit can also be climbed without climbing equipment, although sure-footedness and alpine experience are prerequisites – in the summit area, sections of difficulty grade I and II must be mastered on the ascent and descent. The described circular route combines the legendary waterfall path, the Planspitze as a challenging 2000-meter peak, and the Hesshütte as a resting place, offering everything one can wish for from a tour in the Gesäuse.
From the Kummerbrücke parking lot, 572 m, we follow path 660 through the forest along the Gesäuse reservoir and then turn left up into the so-called "Kummer." After about 300 meters of elevation gain, we cross the spot where a thin, silvery waterfall cascades down the rock face, and then ascend somewhat steeper. At the first steel ladder begins the famous "waterfall path," a via ferrata route boldly built into the rock face in 1891 and 1892 (difficulty A/B). Secured with steel cables and wire pins, it leads up to the Emes-Ruhe, 1220 m: from here, closely hugging the rock face via steep ladders up to 20 meters long and inclined at 70 degrees, to the exit and further into a high valley to the Ebersanger junction, 1473 m. We turn right onto path 663 toward Planspitze and ascend through the forest. The trees increasingly thin out and give way to dwarf pines; we follow the slanted, grassy Kölblplan to the ridge, where we first stand above the grim north faces and look down into the Gesäuse
