Selected alternatives for you
Refreshing pleasure hike for the whole family with various dining options.

The circular route starting at "Camping Seespitze" at Plansee is a walk for everyone. You can either take the boat from the starting point towards Heiterwanger See and then continue walking around the lake, enjoying and relaxing in the beautiful nature, or you can hike up to the canal between Plansee and Heiterwanger See and continue by boat from there. Those feeling sporty can walk from the starting point to Hotel Forelle and then return to "Seespitze" by the MS "Margarethe" or MS "Wilhelm". However you do it, all variants are worthwhile. Those seeking peace, water sports enthusiasts, hikers, climbers, romantics, families, children, singles, and seniors—everyone finds their highlights.

Plansee, located about 7 km southwest in a straight line from Ammersattel, is connected by a canal built in 1908, about 300 m long, with the originally about 68 cm higher situated Heiterwanger See, from which it, along with other tributaries Spießbach and Torsäulenbach, receives its water. To the northwest, Plansee has an outflow via the so-called Kleiner Plansee and over the Archbach to the Lech. It has two basins with depths of 78 and 72 m on a total area of 2.87 km², making it the largest lake in the district (Außerfern) and the second largest in Tyrol.

Plansee, together with Heiterwanger See, is used as a reservoir by the Reutte power plants; the water level is lowered during the winter half-year. Divers are especially enthusiastic about Plansee because of its high visibility depths. Up to 15 meters can be seen in this Class I quality water—ideal conditions for observing the rich animal and plant life that opens up underwater.

On Plansee and Heiterwanger See operates one of the highest commercial shipping lines in Austria, offering cruises from late May into autumn. A trip on one of the scheduled ships (timetable) is an experience not to be missed. They take you through a canal to the neighboring Heiterwanger See, which in beauty and naturalness is by no means inferior to Plansee. For those who prefer to explore on their own, electric and pedal boats are available for rent.

In the eponymous village of Plansee (municipality of Breitenwang) there is a campsite, a dive camp, and a regularly served ship landing stage. On the north shore of Plansee runs the road over Ammersattel between Reutte and Ettal (Kloster Ettal) (Linderhof) or Oberammergau, both on the German side.

Camping site "Seespitze": The Seespitze campsite is terraced, offering every visitor a beautiful and unobstructed view of Plansee. Especially popular with families with children are the forest pitches, where fathers and children become “wild dropouts.” Directly at the campsite is the boat landing stage of the Plansee shipping line. The free sunbathing lawn also adjoins the campsite. The campsite is an ideal starting point for hikes around the lake or to the nearby Stuiben waterfalls. Guided canyoning tours, rafting tours, mountain hikes, and summit climbs make any outdoor enthusiast's heart beat faster. A dive camp is also nearby.

Camping site Sennalpe: The idyllically located Sennalpe campsite at the end of the lake offers pitches for caravans and motorhomes as well as spaces for tents of all kinds and is immediately behind the spaciously designed sunbathing lawn. You will find a kiosk for your purchases directly on the campsite.

Restaurant "Fischer am See": Eating is a need, enjoying is an art.
The chef Wolfgang Bunte Jr. is widely known for his fish specialties and regional delicacies. He skillfully combines old recipes and new ideas with culinary delights that please your palate and benefit your health.
