The Planet Hiking Trail from Freistadt to Sandl is a themed, certified hiking trail that passes by 11 planet stations.
During the Planet Trail hike, you pass beautiful places with views far over the Mühlviertel. The individual planet stations are as follows:
- Freistadt hiking stone with the Sun station
- Freistadt promenade station Mercury
- Freistadt moat with the Earth and Venus stations
- Upper Hafnerzeile Freistadt station Mars - in the moat station "Asteroid belt"
- before the village Schlag station Jupiter
- after Schlag station Saturn
- Gothic Church St. Michael station Uranus
- Village Viehberg station Neptune and
- the last station at the Wöss Observatory in Sandl with the planet Pluto.
The hiking trail can of course also be hiked from Sandl to Freistadt (Postbus 330 from/to Freistadt, Böhmertor) and is therefore marked in both directions.

The hiking trail leads from the hiking stone of the medieval brewing and cultural town of Freistadt to the Feldaist, then upstream to the entrance of the Thury valley, through the village of Schlag (N48° 31.624 E14° 32.098), over the Zimmerhofer farm (N48° 31.514 E14° 32.699) to the mountain church St. Michael ob Rauchenödt (N48° 31.824 E14° 34.535) and then towards Mitterbach with an opportunity to stop at the Forellenwirt (N48° 32.430 E14° 35.351). After the short stop, the path continues to the Viehberghütte (N48° 33.709 E14° 38.158) and to the private observatory of Prof. Wolfgang Wöss in Sandl.
