Plagne is located not far from the town of Biel, in the Bernese Jura. The postal bus gets us there quickly.
Our route begins with a nice climb towards the Prés de la Montagne or Romontberg. We arrive at the place called “Les Boveresses” where a (not very friendly) dog greets us with barking. Let's wait out the storm and continue our hike towards the Romontberg restaurant. Several lovely small houses are scattered along this unpaved route.
We continue following the ridge with a slight ascent up to the Bern/Soleure cantonal border (photo 160). The place is superb!
From there the trail gently descends to Wäsmedi. As the Stierenberg restaurant (photo 177) is closed, we pass the forest road just below it to reach Grenchen. Several benches are placed along the route.
The urban bus takes us to the Grenchen-Sud station to catch the return train.
