Varied hike through forest areas, on narrow paths over alpine meadows, past picturesque mountain lakes, and ending with a rocky ascent to the summit. When you stand on Piz Terza, the Ortler undeniably captivates the view, known until 1919 (Treaty of St. Germain) as the "highest peak in Tyrol." A bit further away but equally impressive to see: Weißkugel and Weißseespitze. The circular hike is quite long and involves an uphill climb — a tour for endurance mountain hikers.
From the parking lot at the entrance of Lü, first to the nearby junction of the hiking trail. It initially leads on a forest path, then an alpine road to Alp Urschai. Here we turn left and follow the path that leads us over the tree line to Alp Valmorain, 2194 m, and further to Alp Tabladatsch. Continue in the sunny slope with a flatter middle section to below Fuorcla Sassalba. Here sharply to the right and partly quite steep below rock cliffs to the extensive summit plateau and to Piz Terza, a double peak. The Urtiolaspitz, only 2 m higher, lies barely more than 100 m further northeast. The descent first leads back over the ridge to a signpost. From here continue southeast to a ridge shoulder, 2587 m, at the border between South Tyrol and Graubünden. Now through initially gentle terrain, then quite steeply to Alp Terza and further to a fork in the path, 2050 m.
