Pfalz Pfade Hardenburg: Circular hiking route Brezelstein
Around Hardenburg you can enjoy varied forest scenery, views of Hardenburg, the Brezelstein, and as a highlight one of the mightiest ruins in the country, the Hardenburg.
Many residents of Hardenburg earned their living through forestry, in quarries, and in mills. The story around the forest use dispute is exemplary: 81 Hardenburg families who lived from the forest had won 39,000 guilders in compensation from the Bavarian state. They waived this money and in a solidarity act entrusted it to the village community. The Brezelstein is a beautiful solitary sandstone rock, a real insider tip in the middle of the forest.
The Brunnenstube is a spring (picnic), from which a water pipe led to Hardenburg. Hardenburg (closed in December and January) with mighty defensive structures and remains of stately buildings was for almost 400 years an important Renaissance residence of the counts of Leiningen and successively a castle, fortress, and palace. Hardenburg offers two places to eat and can be explored with the family. Multimedia reconstructions and a short film transport visitors to its heyday.

Safety information
Please leave the signposting for the next hikers! You can get this for only €2.50 at the Tourist Information Bad Dürkheim.
General information:
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or rainstorms, trees may still fall or branches may break off. Under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. At certain points, surefootedness is required. You must expect such path impairments when going on a hike. If you think certain sections of the path are not passable for you, you should avoid them. Despite the "unmissable" marking of the premium hiking trails, we recommend always carrying a suitable hiking map for safety reasons, so you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency. Path closures and detours must be observed.
Hazard situations:
If an emergency occurs, quick help is needed. And even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points often offer the fastest help. They are located in places that are easily accessible for rescue vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In case of emergency, return there and give the number on the sign when you call for help. This allows rescue workers to find you.
Note:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry operations or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed, and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a closure or detour, please follow the instructions for your own safety.
Roadbook
We start at the parking lot "Lindenbrunnenplatz" (Kaiserslauterer Straße 323) and follow the sign (with the pretzel) towards Schlossbergbrunnen (0.3 km). The path leads past the church through the residential areas "Seilerbahn" and "Schlossberg" and then turns sharply left into the forest. Slightly uphill with views of the Hardenburg district and the Hardenburg ruins (behind you, so please look back once). The forest path makes a right turn, after the left curve the wayfinding sharply leads uphill to the right along the slope to the Brezelstein. Directly below the Brezelstein is a quiet picnic area from where it continues over the sandy forest path past the Feuriges Köpfchen (right curve) to the Brunnenstube. Further downhill the Brezelstein path leads us to the Hardenburg castle and fortress ruins. At the main entrance of the ruins the cobblestone path leads downhill back to the Hardenburg district and the "Lindenbrunnenplatz" parking lot.
