Pfalz Pfade Drei Eichen: Schlangenweiher circular route
Colorfully shimmering dragonflies, concerts of common toads, kingfishers darting swiftly over the water: Those who are quiet and attentive and lucky will experience the wonders of the Schlangenweiher.
The highlight of this path around the Bretterkopf is the Schlangenweiher. It also makes this route suitable for families with young explorers. The species-rich wetland is home to a variety of amphibians, dragonflies, and birds. In March, the loud common toad concert can be heard. Dragonflies such as the hawker dragonfly, great emperor dragonfly, or the four-spotted chaser buzz in summer. Attentive visitors can observe the harmless-to-human grass snake. Quite often in the winter half-year, the turquoise blue kingfisher can also be seen, usually in arrow-quick flight just above the water surface.
Those who have more time and want to explore more hidden secrets in the forest can choose the slightly longer route via Weißer Stein, Hammelsbrunnen with its fountain, and Murrmirnichtviel (route 20).

Naturzauber der Drei EichenSafety information
Please leave the signage for the next hikers! You can get these for just €2.50 at the Tourist Information Bad Dürkheim.
General information:
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves, unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path can be hidden. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may drop. On natural paths, muddy and slippery sections can occur in poor weather conditions. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is sometimes required. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you consider certain sections impassable, you should bypass them. Despite the "unmissable" marking of premium hiking trails, we always recommend carrying a suitable hiking map for safety reasons, so you can quickly find a safe area, for example in a storm or emergency. Path closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations:
If there is an emergency, quick help is required. Even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points are often fastest. These are at locations accessible to rescue vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign when you call for help. This way, rescuers know where to find you.
Note:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting parties on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking paths are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.
