Fondazione Patrimonio Ca' Granda
A countryside route… in Milan!
Leaving behind the Barona district, you immerse yourself in a path through the Parco delle Risaie.
At the edge of the Park is the Cascina Battivacco: founded in the 12th century, donated to the ancient Ca’ Granda Hospital in 1879, it is now a teaching farm, shop, and B&B. All around, the panorama of the rice fields: a scenic nature alternating green meadows and rice paddies.
In the heart of the Park don’t miss the Chiesetta di San Marchetto al Bosco, dating back to 1200. It stands on a small rise as evidence of the original level of the fields, which has lowered over time due to the extraction of clay that was formerly used to make bricks necessary for building new houses in Milan during the city’s growth.
