Zug Tourismus
The varied panoramic route leads along the heights of the Ägerital around the Ägerisee. It is divided into three sections: from Unterägeri up to the Raten, from the Raten to Morgarten, and from Morgarten back along the left side of the lake to Unterägeri.
Besides picturesque landscapes, the hiking trail is lined with rare plants such as native orchids, butterflies, birds, and with some luck, even wild animals like deer, hares, and capercaillie.
Various viewpoints offer excellent views of the Rigi, the Pilatus, the Mythen, and, with good visibility, even the Säntis is within reach.
Small inns and barbecue spots invite you to recharge your batteries and give your legs a brief rest.
Sacred buildings and the Morgarten monument offer lively history lessons in a picturesque landscape. Morgarten is closely connected to the origin of Swiss history. Here, in 1315, the historically significant and controversial Battle of Morgarten took place between the people of Schwyz and the Habsburgs.
Author’s recommendation
Some sections are especially suitable for families with strollers, others are ideal for school trips or hiking-enthusiastic seniors. All sections are easily accessible by bus or boat. Well-equipped fire pits invite you to linger and enjoy a cozy picnic. For photography enthusiasts, there are numerous uniquely beautiful viewpoints, and even along the path it remains exciting: rare plants such as native orchids, butterflies, birds, and with a bit of luck even wild animals like deer, hares, and capercaillie.
