That is indeed the case! Not only the surrounding mountains but also the lake is a magnet for the eye. And especially the Bockmattli wall, which grows mightier the longer you walk towards Schwarzenegghöchi. The path leads beautifully horizontal through the landscape above the turquoise Wägitalersee. The small Bockmattli hut for climbers sticks inconspicuously to the right of the mighty Chälen, a steep but well-walkable gully to the Bockmattli pass. However, we do not climb up there but choose the path down to the staffed alpine building of Schwarzenegg, where a small terrace invites you to rest and alpine cheese is also available for purchase. This hike can also be nicely combined with a pleasant swim at the lake. The picturesque Wägitalersee is a much-visited excursion destination even without hiking, thanks to its beautiful beaches and abundant fish.
