After the ascent to Cry d'Er, the path leading to Les Violettes evolves through greenery sprinkled with limestone scree appreciated by marmots. The hike continues in the small valley below the glacier, crosses two alpine pastures and follows the bisse, ending at the ecomuseum and the Colombire relay.

Chetzeron is an advanced viewpoint over the Crans-Montana resort and the Rhône Valley. To the east you see Upper Valais up to the vicinity of the Simplon Pass. To the south are the Valais Alps with peaks reaching over 4,500 meters. The range extends westward into France where you can see Mont Blanc above Chamonix with its 4,810 meters. It is the highest point of the entire Alpine massif from the Danube to the Mediterranean. Far in the plain to the west is Martigny. Looking back to the right, your gaze now falls on the Bernese Alps range that separates us from the rest of Switzerland. Continuing north, you see the Anzère resort on the other side of the valley. At the top of this valley is the Tzeuzier lake dam where Crans-Montana sources its water. Continuing, you find the upper station of the Plaine-Morte funitel located in front of the glacier of the same name. It is in this northern direction that the hike begins. You will first climb up to Cry d'Er to join a path following a horizontal line toward the Les Violettes Hut. The Les Violettes Hut site is also a special viewpoint on a series of 4000-meter peaks surrounding the Anniviers valley which opens in front of you. There are five with, in the background, the summit of the Matterhorn. Then you will enter the valley where in winter skiers descend from Plaine-Morte. The particularity of this valley? It appears deep but without a watercourse at the bottom. Indeed, it originates nowhere and has been carved only by the erosion of snowmelt from its watershed. On the other side, you will cross two grazed alpine pastures before reaching the Tsittoret Bisse which you will follow toward the Ecomuseum and the Colombire relay. Then, you will have to return to the resort by descending toward Aminona, where the bus will take you back to the resort.

    Author’s recommendation

The path between Cry d'Er and the Les Violettes Hut evolves in high-altitude greenery sprinkled with limestone scree where marmots are very present. With quiet steps and minimal movement, you will have the opportunity to spot them all along the way.
