Circular Hike around the "Axis of the World"

From the Bundesstraße 48, easily overlooked, lies the Kleine Roßrück, 459 m, hidden in the Palatinate Forest between Hochspeyer and Johanniskreuz. But this mountain is of great importance to the Palatinate people. At a time when the Palatinate belonged to Bavaria, a landmark was erected there on the small rocky plateau to be able to topographically survey the surroundings. The Palatinate local poet Paul Münch (1879–1951) stated in his "Palatinate World History" in 1909 that the "Axis of the World" runs here: "Do werd die Weltachs ingeschmeert un ufgebasst, dass nix passeert." (Here the world axis is greased and maintained so that nothing happens.)
On the one hand, the world axis rock is only an artificially created landmark. On the other hand, it can also express the rebellion against oppression rooted in the very core of every true Palatinate native, for the Palatinate people have always played an important role in world politics. In the afterword to his "Palatinate World History," Paul Münch writes in 1950: "The world has gone off the rails, nothing but war and chaos and distress ... The world axis is freshly polished, cleaned, greased, and reassembled, in short, we set everything right that has gone out of joint." And today, a Palatinate worker still greases the "Axis of the World" with his oil can filled with wine (Waldleininger World Axis Festival in mid-October).

At the parking lot Am Stall, we cross straight over the L 504 road coming from Kaiserslautern and follow the marked footpath (white dot and red 1) steeply up to the Palatinate World Axis. On the small rock plateau there is a resting place from which we have a beautiful view over the Palatinate Forest. The white dot and the red 1 lead us from there over the ridge of the Kleine Roßrück to the junction of the K 49 road from the B 48 (parking lot at Balkenbrunnen). From here we go right on the 5 to the access point for rescue vehicles 6613-750 and the subsequent 2 (also mountain bike tour 4) right around the Kleine Roßrück back to the parking lot Am Stall.
