The starting point is the hiking car park at the Bannwald. The route marked "Bannwald-Runde" leads south along the edge of the forest. On the left, the Kneipp Active Park soon comes into view, and we walk past Hotel St. Ulrich and Parkhotel Maximilian. The path leads gently uphill until we cross a cattle pasture. Now it is necessary to cross the street. Some caution is required here. The further path gently descends to the "Fox Farm," today the clubhouse of the Ottobeuren Scouts. Along the route, you can refresh yourself at a Kneipp foot basin. Next follows the only ascent of the circular route. Always uphill, first through the coniferous forest and then through the beautiful deciduous forest. Caution is again advised when crossing the street. After overcoming the stairs, you stand high above Ottobeuren. At a field cross, there is a nice viewpoint bench. However, we follow the path in the other direction towards the Allgäu Public Observatory (guided tours every Friday evening from 7:30 PM in all weather). On the hill, we walk back into the Bannwald. It goes downhill and continues along the path beside the Motzabächle back to the car park.

Part of the route runs on the "Bannwald Forest Adventure Trail," a beautiful experience trail, especially for children.

The Bannwald owes its name to Ottobeuren Abbot Leonhard. In 1524, he "banned" the grazing livestock from the forest because he recognized that it was harmful to the forest. In the Middle Ages, it was common to drive the grazing livestock into the beech-oak forests for feeding and better protection from wolves and bears.Rest stop
