Ottenhöfen – Edelfrauengrab – Eichhaldenfirst
A hike over the Karlsruhe Ridge is not only a scenic delight but also a real challenge. Alpine climbing is not required anywhere, but in addition to excellent surefootedness and a head for heights, hands are repeatedly needed, although usually only to maintain balance. One spot still requires a firm grip at the second level of difficulty. The rock massif to be climbed crowns the wooded ridge like the back of a prehistoric fossil. Impressive is the Eichhaldenfirst, which runs across the main ridge and offers an ideal resting place. With the waterfalls at Edelfrauengrab and the viewpoint Brennte Schrofen, there are further highlights along the way. Orientation difficulties are not to be feared, as we almost consistently follow the Genussweg Karlsruhe Ridge.
From the station square in Ottenhöfen, 303 m, we cross over to Allerheiligenstraße and turn left before the Catholic St. Anna Church into Albert-Köhler-Straße. A footpath leads past the war memorial to Markgraf-Bernhard-Straße, where we leave the town and ascend on a serpentine forest path with the signs of the Genussweg and the yellow diamond to the summit of Eichkopf. Part of the gained altitude is immediately descended again. We pass the Eichkopf hut with a schnapps fountain and, after a short asphalt section from Holderbrünnele, descend on a forest path to the Edelfrauengrab parking area, 394 m. On the right, we enter the scenic gorge with its numerous waterfalls and roaring cascades. The often damp path is ideally secured with railings. A few minutes after passing a romantic stone bridge, the path widens into a comfortable trail, which leads to the schnapps fountain at the Eichhald junction. Now left and uphill along the wooded mountain slope on pleasant paths to Herrenschrofen.
