Jakobspilgrimage in the Palatinate to medieval castle ruins

Pilgrims also passed through the Palatinate on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The northern route runs from Neustadt an der Weinstraße past the Naturfreundehaus Heidenbrunnental to Lambrecht. From there, it goes along the Speyerbach through the Elmstein Valley. We cover the kilometers to Breitenstein on the impressive Three-Castles Trail. Whistling and stomping, we return by a historic steam railway, the Kuckucksbähnel.

Coming from the train station building in Neustadt, we turn left onto Bahnhofstraße, walk over the railway bridge, and go straight up the Hambach stairway (ignoring the pilgrim's shell here). 200 m after the steps, we reach Waldstraße and turn right. Passing stately villas, after a right turn, you reach Neustadt Monastery. Shortly before the modern, yellow-painted church, a staircase with a clearly visible pilgrim's shell leads down to a narrow path on the right. It ends at Karolinenstraße, which leads left past the Leibniz Gymnasium, then turning left and immediately right to the Hauberanlage, a fountain complex built in historicist style with a bronze figure from the penultimate century. Past the last house on the magnificent Hauberallee, a pleasant path leads left into the forest. Past an unusual old forest well (go up a few steps to the left), we reach a crossroads with a resting bench. We take the downhill path to the right through the chestnut forest. At its end, near three

Profile picture of Albrecht Ritter Author Albrecht Ritter
