Starting in Sopron’s villa district, an interesting nature trail (Ciklámen tanösvény)—which also features German-language signs—runs along the foot of Karlshöhe and through Várhely to Kertváros. Along the way, you’ll also pass an ancient burial mound and the remains of an early-period ring fort. It’s a delightful tour for which you should set aside plenty of time.
At the lower end of the turnaround loop, across from the bus stop near the Hotel Lővér, is the first information sign for the Ciklámen Nature Trail, which is marked throughout with a flower symbol (cyclamen). From here, we follow the gravel path along a fence, initially marked in yellow (branching off to the left after a few meters) and with a green cross (branching off to the right at the next intersection), and continue straight ahead through the forest. When a road comes into view, our path turns slightly left (initially marked with a green triangle, then with a green line 100 m further on) and leads along a ditch, now clearly uphill. A road is visible on the other side of the valley. We pass the Deák-kút spring, beyond which the trail climbs more steeply and finally—after the yellow markings rejoin the trail shortly before—reaches the parking lot at the Trianon Memorial Park. From here, you can take a detour to Karlshöhe (alternative route) or continue directly along the road,
