A wonderful scenic hike along the slopes of the Leitha Mountains, where thousands of cherry trees bloom in spring, can be undertaken between Donnerskirchen and Breitenbrunn. Along the way, we pass several stations of an educational trail, charming chapels, historic wine cellars, and the Thenau nature reserve near Breitenbrunn.
From Donnerskirchen station, we walk through Bahnstraße into the town and reach the intersection of federal road 50 with the main street, which we cross to follow towards the church. Where the road towards Hof am Leithagebirge branches left, we turn right to a square with a fountain shaped like a goat. From here, a short detour via steps leads to the mountain church. Our tour passes the fountain and continues diagonally right along the Weingartenweg, marked green. We pass the Weingartenweg chapel and follow the Ried Bergweingärten farm road. To the right, we already have a beautiful view of Lake Neusiedl, and if we are on the trail at the right time of year, we will see the first blooming cherry trees. At the next fork, we keep left, following the signposts of the cherry blossom bike trail, passing a wayside shrine and a rest area.Continuing marked green, we pass another rest area. Then the farm road briefly descends to a fork, where we follow the farm road Spitzkreuz uphill on the left.
