On the Adolf Hackner route, panoramic views, tranquility, and enjoyment of nature are guaranteed: especially in the idyllic Agbach valley or at the calcareous sinter terraces of the Kaisinger Brunnenbach.
The circular route surrounds the entire area of the core town of Greding east of the Schwarzach and is characterized by combining the most beautiful sections of several Greding hiking trails. Panoramic views, tranquility, and enjoyment of nature are guaranteed here – for example in the idyllic Agbach valley or at the calcareous sinter terraces of the Kaisinger Brunnenbach.
The path is designed so that both day tourists, overnight guests, and local citizens can walk it in one go or in smaller sections. Every 2 to 4 km, there is a possibility to end the hike and return to the marketplace in the historic city center.

Tips and suggestions
The path commemorates the late Adolf Hackner from Greding, who died in 2011. He was a long-serving hiking warden of the city of Greding and chairman of several clubs, including the Association for Culture and Homeland Preservation e. V.
The calcareous sinter terraces in the Kaisinger valley are among the landscape highlights in Roth district. A three-kilometer natural trail leads hikers to this impressive natural spectacle. In cascades, the clear water of the Brunnenbach flows here over terraces of limestone rock. During its underground route through the karst Jura rock, the carbonic acid in the water dissolves calcium carbonate. In the air, the dissolved calcium carbonate settles again: over many years, this calcareous sinter – also called tufa – formed the sinter terraces of the Kaisinger valley.
The Archaeology Museum at Greding market square shows the spectacular finds from archaeological excavations near Großhöbing and from the city area. The museum tour starts on the ground floor with the burial chamber of the so-called “Höbing prince” and his four companions, which is unique in Europe. It shows the precisely staged fivefold burial from around 720 AD with life-sized, plastic reconstructions of the five warriors who all met a violent death together.

Roadbook
Starting from the overview board at the beginning of the path, we cross the car park and walk on a footpath towards the Schwarzach. In front of the Achmühle, at the fish bypass channel, we turn left and walk along the bank of the Schwarzach below the indoor swimming pool and sports fields. We cross the Distelbach, walk along the field, and turn left at the end of it. Then we follow the Greding-Kinding road towards Mettendorf, cross it, and walk uphill to a meadow orchard with a beautiful view of the Schwarzach valley. At the meadow orchard, we turn left and walk back down to the Distelbach, which we cross near a beaver dam and at the next junction turn right past the municipal recycling containers towards the nature trail.
Here, we hike past very scenic sinter terraces, ascending a few meters in elevation before turning left again towards Greding. We cross the Greding-Beilngries road and follow a forest path in a left bend along the forest edge above Greding with very nice views of the Schwarzach valley. The Hackner route now runs for about 3 km on this hillside path, partly directly above the settlements. A section can alternatively be covered nearby on a scenic root path.
At a car park, we come to the Greding-Berching road. We cross it and walk a few meters on dry grass to a gravel path, where we turn left towards the Agbach valley. In the valley, we follow the Agbach again towards Greding, walking along a beautiful spring stream. At the fish ponds, we turn right and ascend a few elevation meters through a hollow path, then follow a beautiful hiking trail halfway up to the left.
We pass a Marian wayside shrine towards Greding to the connecting road Greding-Röckenhofen, cross it, and initially walk a few meters downhill on the sidewalk before following a gap in the hedge to the right onto a meadow path towards the large lime tree with a bench above the old town. From here, we have a wonderful view of Greding and the surroundings. Over the newly established Stations of the Cross, we descend in a few minutes to the St. Martin's Church. We then follow the path along the town wall back to our starting point, the old town car park.
