Very varied high-altitude hike through forests and over Jura pastures on the southern flank of the first Jura ridge. The area crossed is considered a unique recreational area well served by public transport. The Höllchöpfli is even counted among the most beautiful viewpoints of the Oberaargau. From here, the view opens up to 16 (!) cantons. The Pre-Alps and Alps form a bright wreath around a gentle landscape where river courses, lakes, and small lakes sparkle. The many noted branches facilitate an almost unlimited variety of options. Hard-surface sections exist only in the settlement area.
Rumisberg still offers the largely unspoiled image of a beautiful Jura slope village. The village coat of arms shows three blue mountains and a red rose. This commemorates the most respected citizen of the municipality, Hans Roth. In 1382, he warned Solothurn of an attack by the Kyburgers and thus saved it.
From the bus stop to the western edge of the village. First along the forest edge, then steeply uphill in the forest and up a forest road over a field terrace to Farnern. The view is magnificent over the Aar valley, the Buchsi hills, the Napf area, and the high Alps, especially when the fog swirls below. From the restaurant westwards through the village and from the highest point of the village street steeply uphill along a hedge. At point 984 into the uppermost curve of Schmidemattstrasse. Here turn immediately right toward the Stiereberg farm. As soon as the path begins to rise, you meet Hindereggstrasse (to Schoren–Rumisberg 45 min, to Wiedlisbach 1 h 15 min), which you follow to the ridge gap on Hinderegg (to the mountain inn 7 min). From here, follow the red-yellow markings of the Jura high trail. Already at the forest edge, another worthwhile option is offered (over the magnificent viewpoint Ankehubel to Wolfisberg 50 min, to Oberbipp–Wiedlisbach 1 h 30 min). The steep ascent to the Höllchöpfli is also richly rewarded: the wide-spread panoramic view reaches 16 cantons. Below, river courses sparkle, as well as the lake surfaces of Lake Neuchâtel, Murten, Biel, Inkwil, Aeschi, and Sempach. All in all: a true feast for the eyes! Following the cantonal border, you reach the wide Jura pasture Schwengimatt (to Wolfisberg 1 h 10 min).
The descent first follows the edge of the Wannenflue. At the viewpoint Legeli, there is a view of Balsthal, Oensingen, and the Gäu plain. Beyond the Klus Roggenflue and Neu Bechburg. The path now descends even more steeply to the Walderalp (to the Erlinsburg ruin 10 min). The return route becomes a real panorama trail on the sunny terrace above the houses of Walden to Wolfisberg (to Wiedlisbach 40 min) and Rumisberg (to Wiedlisbach 30 min).
