Touristik & Freizeit Sankt Wendeler Land
Wide views over the Schaumberg region and the frequent alternation between forest and open land are the main features of this varied route. Of cultural and historical interest is the former border between the Saar territory and the German Reich, which can be experienced through numerous old boundary stones.
Along the former border of the Saar territory to the German Reich, as well as the former border of Hofgut Imsbach to the Mettnich district, the path leads through extensive forest landscapes. Numerous historic boundary stones and the Rötel district between Theley and Selbach are passed. Hikers are offered magnificent views of the Schaumberg region, the Hochwald, and as far as the Freisen heights. Cultural and historical sights on the trail are Hofgut Imsbach and the Johann-Adams-Mühle near Theley, one of the last mill farms in Saarland. The route owes its name to the history of Hofgut Imsbach, which experienced its heyday at the beginning of the 19th century when Louis Lapointe received the estate in 1811 as a reward for his military successes and transformed the area around the Hofgut into a landscape park.

Since the reopening of the Tholey Abbey in October 2020, 37 newly designed church windows can be admired there. Three of the choir windows were designed by Gerhard Richter, the most important living artist of our time.
The Imsbach Promenade, only 4.7 km long, can be recommended as an alternative. Here too, the Hofgut is the start and finish.

Attention:
Entering the forest and walking on the hiking trails is fundamentally at your own risk!
Seasonal and weather-related, increased sure-footedness is required on some sections. Therefore, wear clothing and hiking boots adapted to the season and weather with the appropriate tread. Be cautious of breaking branches and damaged trees. In strong winds and in winter due to snow and ice, the dangers from falling trees and branches increase.
Roadbook
From the starting point, the route immediately passes through the historic manor, then climbs over the Imsbach Promenade through a birch and oak forest. The path continues variedly through forest areas and meadow sections at the forest edge up to the "Bruderborn", a spring whose water is attributed with healing powers. It is said that Brother Sebastian Jensen from the Benedictine Abbey Tholey, who lived from 1764 to 73 in the hermitage of the bell tower of the Kathreinenkapelle Selbach, used to draw water here daily. The inhabitants of Sehlbach called the spring "Bruderborn." The path continues towards Sehlbach along the forest edge. At the first houses, there is a short ascent. Here the route heads again on the wooded ridge towards Hofgut. It climbs again through the Kathrinenwald with large beeches. From the hill, it descends steeply until reaching a wider and gravelled path. Here the forest opens repeatedly, giving views of pastures, sheep, cows and horses. The path continues over open terrain past the "Napoleoneiche", a 300-year-old oak.
By a pond, the path enters the forest again on trails and ascends to the road. After crossing, it goes down to the Johann-Adams-Mühle. It is the only preserved mill estate in Saarland with a medieval milling room. Impressive: the water is led to the mill wheel via a 12-meter-long oak wood bridge, and the roof is thatched. In this picturesque setting, not only popular bread-baking courses take place, but you can also enjoy hearty meals in the beer garden.
Behind the mill wheel, the path continues in a curve back over a small hill, over trails through the forest. On the descent, the hiker comes to the pond of the Hofgut Imsbach and has only a few meters left to the starting point of the route.
