The Öjan Saaristopolku or Öja archipelago trail is the longest hiking trail in the vicinity of Kokkola and runs through the Kätölandet peninsula south of the city. The 22 km long circular route brings us closer to the nature of a skerry island that was still submerged by the sea 1000 to 2000 years ago. The highest point is reached by the tongue of land covered with various types of forest at 22 m above sea level. The circular route runs almost exclusively through forest and only reaches the sea at the northern tip. Before that, it passes by small lakes that had connections to the sea geologically not long ago.

We hike in the clearing of a power line, later through primeval forest area, where there are repeatedly passages over sparsely pine- and lichen-covered granite hills to overcome. Crossings of forest roads are always marked with signs. After a total of just over 3 km, the route joins a gravel road, on which we turn left to the junction of the long archipelago loop. Straight ahead continues the variant, which after 1 km meets the eastern, returning loop. We follow to the left a gravel road,
