Odderøya belongs to Kristiansand, Norway, in the southernmost county of Vest-Agder. Four bridges cross the Gravanekanal, which separates the peninsula from the mainland. Traces of military activities can be found all over Odderøya. The remnants date from the time of the Great Northern War up to the Cold War era. For example, there are numerous positions for cannons and machine guns as well as information boards on military history. In addition, the peninsula served as a quarantine station for about a century – remains of the quarantine wall are still preserved today. Nowadays, Odderøya is popular among those seeking recreation who want to stroll around the peninsula or use the bathing facilities on the east side. Odderøya has also become an important cultural center: renowned artists give concerts there or exhibit their works in galleries.
