Oberdrauburg - Irschen short tour
On little-traveled paths, be one with nature - and with the pilgrims on the Carinthian Jakobsweg!
This path in the south of the Drava is partially unknown even to locals - a pity, as it offers, besides flat sections, a short ascent with beautiful photo spots, where at the highest point you are about 100 meters directly above the Drava. For the most part, wide paths with no or little opposing traffic allow unrestricted interaction with fellow travelers.
Author’s recommendation
Burgbichl in Irschen - unique cultural and natural heritage - plan about 2 hours in total for climbing, exploring, and enjoying.
Schloß Stein - if time and stamina allow, you can also plan the ascent along a "Way of the Cross" to Schloß Stein. The castle itself is not open to the public - but the place is definitely worth a visit.

Roadbook
Sections of asphalt alternate with gravel and forest paths, and again and again there are magnificent views into the valley and of the opposite mountain slopes.
At Oberdrauburg station, head west towards the Drava bridge, keep left before the bridge and immediately turn left again into a small residential area, then through meadows eastwards towards Irschen. After a short ascent on a freight road, descend to a creek crossing. From here gently downhill to the hamlet "Pflügen" and the last stretch on asphalt road to the Drava bridge. Shortly before the bridge, go straight ahead over a dry creek bed; on the left side within sight are the display boards for Burgbichl. From here, follow the marked path to Burgbichl. The first section runs through a protected juniper grove. Then you cross the creek bed once again. A newly created narrow track leads up to the beginning of the excavation. The curves are steeply designed. At the so-called "gate system" keep right and follow the excavation site upwards around. When you reach the upper church, you have reached the highest point here. Follow the narrow path now down to the lower church and the gate system. From here, follow the same path back to the Drava bridge. The station is located a little past the Drava bridge on the right side.
